Tim McFarlane

Tim McFarlane became an accredited specialist with the Law Institute of Victoria in Alternative Dispute Resolution in 1993. Tim's extensive expertise has been developed over 30 years while employed at, and as a partner in a number of law firms and with the Professional Standards Department of the Law Institute of Victoria. He is highly respected within the legal profession for his commercially focussed, proactive, balanced and well reasoned conflict resolution approach.

Tim is a member of a number of mediation committees and panels in Victoria, New South Wales and Hong Kong, former Chairman of the Mediatory Advisory Committee and is a member on the list of Mediators for World Intellectual Property Organisation, Geneva, Switzerland.

He is a member of the ADR Committee of the Law Council of Australia and a director of the national Mediator Standards Board.

Tim is the only Victorian in the international publication of  Who's Who Legal- Commercial Mediation 2011.

Jonathan Mott

Jonathon MottJonathan Mott also became an accredited specialist with the Law Institute of Victoria in Alternative Dispute Resolution in 1993. Jonathan has over 40 years experience as a partner in private practice and as managing partner of the Dispute Resolution Division of a national law firm formerly known as (Deacons) and now Norton Rose.  In addition Jonathan is a director of several companies in the private and public sector, former President of the Law Institute of Victoria and Chair of Victorian Legal Aid and Housing Guarantee Fund Ltd.

As a mediator, Jonathan is experienced in all areas of practice and as an arbitrator, has particular experience in the commercial field. After joinging Tim McFarlarne in 2003 he has continued to develop his practice as a mediator and arbitrator and also conducted private inquiries and investigations.







Michael Tehan

Michael Tehan Michael Tehan's career as a senior partner of Minter Ellison, from which he retired at the end of 2014, together with his background as a senior public servant and a union official, gave him opportunities to work with a wide range of clients in some of their most complex problems.

As a practising litigator, he ran cases in all State and Federal Courts, including a number of cases in the High Court. More than 100 decisions in matters in which he was involved are reported. His practice was predominantly in areas such as employment, industrial, administrative, government, discrimination and education law. As with many lawyers, most of his work was in policy, strategy, dispute avoidance, and resolution of issues without lengthy proceedings. He was consistently listed as one of Australia's leading lawyers in his field in Best Lawyers, Doyle's Guide and Chambers.

Within his law firm, he held various management roles over the years and he was the client relationship partner for several of the firm's largest clients, including the Victorian Government and Australia Post.

During his career, he has been actively involved in a number of boards and committees outside the law. Currently he serves as a Director of Villa Maria Catholic Homes Limited, a large provider of disability services, retirement living, aged care, and education. He chairs the Quality and Compliance Committee. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for Workplace Leadership at The University of Melbourne. He has held various roles on school councils, residents' groups and was a member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for Employment and Labour Relations Law at The University of Melbourne.

Since joining McFarlane Legal Dispute Resolution, Michael has built a career as a mediator, bringing to parties his extensive experience as a solicitor appearing in numerous mediations together with his knowledge of litigation and managing and assisting people in conflict in a wide range of areas.
